Carrot Halwa (with Kova) {Gajar Ka Halwa}


Carrot halwa is one of the most popular halwa recipes of India. It is made in almost all festive occasions in India. Carrot halwa is a classic Indian dessert that goes for any celebration occasion or season. It is an evergreen Indian sweet dessert made all over India. There are many variations of making carrot halwa recipe. But we will see how to prepare carrot halwa with kova. Kova is nothing but condensed milk.

Ingredients

  1. Finely grated Carrot (washed) – 2 cups
  2. Butter – 2 tablespoons
  3. Cashew nuts, chopped almonds and raisins – ½ cup
  4. Milk – 1 cup
  5. Kova (condensed milk) – 2 tablespoon
  6. Cardamom (Skinned and Crushed) – 2
  7. Sugar – ½ cup

Method / Directions


  1. On a pan, put 2 tablespoons of butter.
  2. Let the butter melt on a medium flame.
  3. When the butter is melted, add ½ cup of cashew nuts, chopped almonds and raisins.
  4. Fry them till cashew nuts are golden brown and take them out and put it in a cup.
  5. To the same pan which still has the melted butter, add 2 cups of finely grated carrot.
  6. Keep mixing the carrot with the melted butter for at least 2 or 3 minutes.
  7. Add 1 cup of milk and mix it well.
  8. Add ½ cup of sugar and mix it well.
  9. Cook the mixture for at least 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes a thick mixture. The carrots should drink in all the milk.
  10. Stir at regular intervals to prevent scorching.
  11. When the carrots are soft, add 2 tablespoons of kova which is condensed milk.
  12. Mix it well till your kova melts.
  13. Stir it again at regular intervals to prevent scorching for 5 minutes. When the kova and melted butter starts to float, carrot halwa is ready.
  14. Add crushed cardamoms and mix it well.              
  15. Serve it hot on a serving bowl.

Alright, carrot halwa is ready and it looks delicious.
