Let's make thick flattened lemon rice which is also called as ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ ಚಿತ್ರಾನ್ನ (Gatti Avalakki chitranna).
Ingredients
- Poha (flattened rice) - 1 cup
- Cooking oil - 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Groundnuts - 2 tbsp
- Channa dal - 1 tsp
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Green chilies - 2 chopped
- Curry leaves - few
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coconut - 2 tbsp, grated
- Lemon juice - 1/2 of the lemon
- Coriander leaves - few, chopped
- Water - as needed
Preparation
- Take a bowl, add 1 cup of poha (flattened rice), and some water to wash the flattened rice.
- Wash the poha nicely and drain out the water.
- Add some water to soak the flattened rice and soak it for a minute.
- After a minute, take a strainer and a bowl, strain the water completely.
- Keep the poha aside.
- Take a pan, add 2 tbsp of cooking oil and allow the cooking oil to heat on a low flame.
- Add 1/4 tsp of mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
- Add 1/4 tsp of cumin seeds and 1/4 cup of groundnuts.
- Fry them for a minute.
- Add a tsp of channa dal & a tsp of urad dal.
- Fry them for few seconds.
- Add 2 chopped green chilies and few curry leaves.
- Fry them a little.
- Add 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder and salt as per taste.
- Mix them well.
- Add soaked and drained flattened rice.
- Mix them well.
- Add 2 tbsp of grated coconut, few chopped coriander leaves, and a tsp of lemon juice.
- Give them a good mix.
- Close the pan and cook for a minute on a low flame.
- Open the lid and mix it again.
- Add half of the lemon juice and give them a good mix.
- Turn off the flame.
- That's it! Thick Flattened Lemon Rice (ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ ಚಿತ್ರಾನ್ನ) is ready to be served.
Serve it with coconut chutney and it goes well.
