Cluster Beans Ricebath | Gorikayi Ricebath | ಗೋರಿಕಾಯಿ ಬಾತ್


Gorikayi ricebath is a spicy, tangy, and tasty Karnataka-style cluster bean ricebath that can be made at home. This dish's texture and flavour are enhanced by the addition of coconut. Fresh coconut, spices, and cooked rice are used in this simple recipe. This is a terrific lunchbox dish as well.

In only a few simple steps, you'll be able to make the healthy cluster beans ricebath. Cluster beans are extremely beneficial to one's health. They can aid with diabetes and bone strength.

Ingredients

For grinding

  1. Fresh Coconut - 1/4 cup, sliced
  2. Black peppercorns - 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - a tsp
  4. Dry red chilies - 3
  5. Kashmiri red chilies - 3
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  7. Water - a little

For gorikayi rice bath

  1. Cooking oil - 2 tbsp
  2. Mustard - 1/4 tsp
  3. Fresh green peas - 1/4 cup
  4. Chana dal - 1 tbsp
  5. Cashew nuts - few
  6. Red chili - 2 no
  7. Bay leaf - 1
  8. Curry leaves - few
  9. Asafetida - a pinch
  10. Cluster beans (Gorikayi) - 1 cup, chopped
  11. Jaggery - 1/2 tsp, powdered
  12. Salt - as per taste
  13. Tamarind - 1 tbsp, soaked
  14. Rice - a bowl, cooked

Preparation

  1. Take a blending jar.
  2. Add 1/4 cup of fresh coconut that has been sliced, 1/2 tsp of black peppercorns, a tsp of cumin, 2 to 3 dry red chilies, 3 numbers of Kashmiri red chilies, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, and little water.
  3. Blend them into a smooth paste.
  4. Keep the masala paste aside.
  5. Take a pan, add 2 tsp of cooking oil and allow the cooking oil to heat on a low flame.
  6. Add 1/4 tsp of mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
  7. Add 1/4 cup of fresh green peas, a tbsp of chana dal & few cashew nuts.
  8. Sauté them for few seconds.
  9. Add 2 dry red chilies, a bay leaf, few curry leaves, and a pinch of asafetida.
  10. Sauté them a little.
  11. Add a cup of chopped cluster beans and sauté them for 2 minutes.
  12. Add blended masala paste.
  13. Mix and sauté them for a minute.
  14. Add 1/2 tsp of powdered jaggery and salt as per taste.
  15. Take a tbsp of soaked tamarind.
  16. Squeeze it well and take out extras.
  17. Pour the tamarind water into the pan.
  18. Mix them well and sauté them for 2 minutes on a low flame.
  19. Add a bowl of cooked rice & mix them well.
  20. Lastly, add few chopped coriander leaves and mix it again.
  21. That's it! Gorikayi Ricebath is ready.
Serve this bath with raita or coconut chutney.
